Empowerment through Self Defense for the International Woman
Self-Defense at its best gives us new tools to draw on as we move through our daily lives, feeling and being stronger and safer because of what we know. In addition to teaching accessible targets and basic striking techniques, this workshop for ALL women shows how assertive posture and speech can empower you in your life. Communication norms differ from region to region so we will discuss what you can do in the US to convey that you are confident and capable.
Shura Gat, Program Director for Community Center Programs is a personal safety educator with more than ten years teaching experience. She holds a 2nd degree black belt in tae kwon do and has studied a variety of other martial arts. Her philosophy of self-defense is one of discovery and empowerment - she believes that everyone, no matter size or ability, can learn effective physical defense techniques. More importantly, she knows that the small choices we make every day make an enormous contribution to our safety and sense of security.

A Sneak Back at Suffrage:
A Trip to Seneca Falls
A group of RA's and supporting faculty members who strongly believe in the importance of women in the history of America and modern-day society have coordinated this trip to Seneca Falls. The trip will educate and inspire Cornell students to apply the lessons of early feminism to existing injustices and gender inequality and to obtain an appreciation for feminism, past and present. Students will recognize the progress we have achieved in the women's movement yet also recognize how far we have to go before achieving true gender parity. We hope this event will inspire students to become advocates for gender equity both in their personal lives within the Cornell campus and, potentially, in their future careers.
This event is sponsored by Mews hall, Donlon Hall, Dickson and McLLU Halls, High Rises, Keeton House, Rose House, Cascadilla Apartments, and the Women's Resource Center.
